29th February - Ali Baba and the Forty Theives

29th February - Jamie Roberts
Today’s rehearsal we concentrated on 'Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves'
We had a good lesson today because everyone concentrated on what we needed to do. We recapped on what we already did, but we needed to work on the cue lines and make sure they were a lot quicker and we did the transition from scene to scene. Today we worked on the forty thieves and we had to show the element on them. I felt they were very much fire. And we had to show this by our body language and facial expression.
We then worked on the part were Ali Baba’s wife finds out about the gold. Laura did this very well. David (Ali Baba) and Laura worked on their relationship together, (being husband and wife)
In the scene I have to move the flats on stage so we set where I had to move them to. I also had to work out where I needed to keep my next props so they wouldn’t get in the way and also wouldn’t be on stage.

I felt I worked well in this lesson because I was focus at the start of the lesson but one of the problems was I was getting very stressed in the rehearsals because when we had to keep going over the scenes I had to keep moving the flats. I think I could have improved this by staying more positive and my focus would have stayed throughout. I did make sure I had all of my props before I started so I wouldn’t have to run across the scene. I also was always there when I needed to move the flats.

  1. It's great that you are really taking in what is going on around you in the rehearsal and It is also great that you can see what other members of the ensemble are doing to develop their characters, but what are YOU doing to develop yours? Even if you are aren't playing a specific character, you must be developing your thief or your role as a storyteller.

  2. Some of your entries really give the reader a snippet of what was going on around you during the rehearsal which is great. The real purpose of the blog though is that it should be used as a tool to help you develop your character throughout the rehearsal process of the show. Judging by what you have published it appears that you either have not published all your entries or that you have simply not kept up with your blog over the course of the rehearsals. You are missing several entries.

You don't seem to reflecting on why you are doing what you are doing in rehearsal or how you can use your strengths and weakness to develop your role within the show. There is also a real lack of any research for any of your characters or any thought into how some of the workshops we did at the start of the process are linked to the process of developing a character. Did you use the elements work? Did you think about tension levels or Laban efforts? Did you feel take any inspiration or apply any of the work on Stanislavski? What were your characters intentions and objectives in scenes for example?

Its was great that you attempted to include some photo's in your blog, be carful about formatting and sizing them correctly though, also try and be consistent with this if that is how you want to present your blog. This Blog has been reffered as it lacks content and detail, You need to publish unpublished posts or add to this please Demi in order to Pass. You need to reflect on how you developed your character as part of this process if you want to achieve a merit and you will need to show an imaginative use of characterisation and research to achieve distinction.
